Lip care
Your lips are extremely sensitive and can become sore quite easily, especially during the cold winter months.
Excessive lip licking, cold environments and the use of chemical products can cause your lips to become sore, dry and cracked. But we all want smooth, soft, kissable lips - especially when the mistletoe is everywhere!
USE A LIP SCRUB
Every time you exfoliate your skin, which should only be done a few times a week, you should also think about your lips. Some companies offer fabulous lip scrub products that you can literally lick off your lips after exfoliating, or you can make your own scrub at home using coconut oil and brown sugar. This will help remove dry skin, especially if you use a moisturizing lip balm afterward, which will give you a smooth base for lipstick.
USE MOISTURIZING LIP PRODUCTS
When choosing your winter lipsticks (berry colors are trending this season!), go for moisturizing products. If you're particularly prone to dry lips, stay away from matte lipsticks as they will dry out your lips even more and accentuate chapped lips. Also, always apply a moisturizing lip balm before lipstick as this will add extra moisture to your lips and help the lipstick last longer.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER
Drinking water frequently keeps your lips moisturized and less prone to chapping.
I think we mention this in EVERY blog post about skin care, but it always seems to come down to the same thing. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. It's not only important for skin care, but for overall health.
DON'T FORGET YOUR LIP BALM IN THE EVENING
PROTECT YOUR LIPS FROM WIND AND WEATHER
When you go outside, make sure you protect your lips well. All year round, but especially in summer, apply a lip balm with a high SPF to protect your lips from the harmful UV rays. In the colder months, wrap a scarf or shawl around your face. This is a good way to protect your whole face, not just your lips, from the biting, icy wind.
